22nd August 2016

Sea Day Partly Cloudy Temp 28c Sea and wind calmed down but still lumpy.

Both slept better last night although mine was with the aid of a sleeping tablet.

From the Navigator.

The Pacific Ocean is the largest of the Earth’s oceanic divisions. It extends from the Arctic Ocean in the north to Antarctica in the south and is bound by Asia and Australia in the west and the Americas in the east. At 165.25 million square kilometers in area its hydrosphere covers about 46% of the Earth’s water surface and about one third of its total surface area, making it larger than all of the Earth’s land area combined. The equator subdivides it into the North Pacific Ocean and the South Pacific Ocean, with two exceptions the Galapagos and Gilbert Islands, while straddling the equator are deemed wholly within the South Pacific. The Mariana Trench in the western North Pacific is the deepest point in the world, reaching a depth of 10,911 meters. It’s no wonder we have been 5 days without seeing land.

This morning I went to Geof Gray’s lecture “Where were you? Great events of our lifetime” A lot of these great events were unpleasant ones like Cyclone Tracy and the death of Princess Dianna but there were good ones like the man on the moon, Melbourne Olympics etc. The Halls & Mathews will no doubt remember where they were when Dianna died. (Brampton Island with us) I have one fact he gave which I am checking up on that is when the West Gate Bridge collapsed, I thought he said in 1979 which would have put us in Victoria as we moved over in 1975 but I remember being in SA at a Sales Conference which I organized. We have looked it up since and the bridge collapsed in 1970. For a change today we went to the dining room for lunch and were joined by Bev, Ian & Coral. It was very nice and we will be doing it again. The only thing is you eat too much and then don’t want evening dinner. It’s a hard life. Tonight we could have gone to see a Hypnotist or a repeat of the production show “Sweet Soul Music” we went to the later and most in our group went to the former. We have not seen them yet to get a report. Our show was not as good as the first time we saw it but it was OK. Afterwards we went for Hot Chocolates and to listen to Darren Bethell play piano and sing in the Atrium.
