San Francisco up until 12.30pm when we sail. Sunny again
Temp 21c
This morning I decided to go for coffee at Starbucks so that
I could use their free/fast Wi Fi to do some updating of Norton Anti-Virus and
to update some programs on the iPad. The best laid plans of men & mice do
not always work out. Firstly I only had a $50 note to pay for a coffee but they
do not take notes as large as $50 so I could not buy a coffee (Hard to believe
but true) anyway instead of going out I found myself an out of the way corner
and used their Wi Fi anyway. But, it was so slow far worse than on the ship. I
can only think it was because practically everyone in there was on the system.
I eventually gave up and went back to the ship but not before stopping at Pier
39 where I knew there was a money exchange as I needed to get more US dollars ready
for Hawaii. It just was not my day because the exchange was closed with no
notice as to when it opened. Betty had not left the ship quite as early as me
but she did decide to go back to where she could take a good photo through an
archway, so when I got back to the ship she was not there. I bought myself a
coffee in the Atrium on deck 7 and settled down to use my precious internet
minutes to do what I thought I was going to do at Starbucks. As a lot of
passengers were taking their last look at San Fran the speed was not too bad.
Finally, I went down to deck 5 to wait for Betty to return. I have not
mentioned that the power was going to be off in our cabin during the morning as
they continue with whatever repairs they have been doing. When I got to deck 5
Betty was already there talking to Coral & Norine. For lunch we decided to
go to the buffet and get food but to take it back to our cabin so that we could
see the sail out. What I have not told you is that before I returned to the
ship I called at the famous Boudin Bakery where they make Sourdough Bread and
have been doing so since 1849. I bought a sandwich roll which we cut in half
and made a sandwich each with filling from the Buffet. Today we changed
Captains, the new one is Capt Diego Perra from Cagliari Italy.
Tonight’s entertainment was a brief performance by the
singers and dancers and a longer one by Jamie Clarke who is actually one of the
Cruise Directors staff but as we found out later used to be a full time
entertainer but had problems with his vocal chords. However, he can still sing
and sing well as he sang songs of singer such as Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra
and others. A very enjoyable night. We were rocked to sleep as there is quite a
strong swell coming down from the north.
