Lahaina, Maui. Cloudy Temp 28c.
We had the “Best of Maui” tour booked for here before we
left home but we subsequently cancelled it as we were finding too many tour
very tiring. This post was a tender port which means the ships tender boats are
used to ferry passengers to the shore. Knowing that this can cause long queues
we did not rush to get off. A tender ticket system was used where you went to
the Regency Dining room when you were ready to go ashore and you get a ticket
after which you sit in the dining room until your batch of numbers are called
then you go to the boat. It all worked well and we did not have to wait too
long once we were ready. Once ashore we caught the free shuttle bus to the
Outlet Stores (after all we needed to do more shopping). The Outlet Stores were
just separate stand-alone upmarket stores. We went in one which had very nice
clothes but at the same prices or more than we can buy in Melbourne. However,
we did find a Starbucks and it was Internet Heaven. Fast & Free. We had
thought to bring our iPads so we could update a few Apps. and check a few other
sites we would not do onboard because of the slowness of the system. We walked
back to the tender boats along a lot of strip shopping. As the afternoon went on there seemed to be
quite a lot of younger people getting around and we figured that it must be the
sort of island that honeymooners come to. It was nice just to stroll along
without anything particular in mind. In the center of town there is a huge
Banyan tree which now features in our photos. Back on the ship we managed a
SCAN (Senior Citizen Afternoon Nap) before dinner. All aboard was 5.30pm so we
sailed during our dinner. Our entertainment was “The Modern Gentlemen” singing
the Hits of the Golden Era including the music of Frankie Valli and the Four
Seasons, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Motown and more. They reminded us of
Human Nature, perhaps not as good, but we are biased.
