Kot Kinabalu Malaysia Sunny Skies with some cloud. Temp 28c
From the Navigator.
Sun Princess will board the local pilot at 6am and then
proceed on a southerly heading into Gaya Bay, heading towards our berth, where
we will berth starboard side to the quay. On departure from Kota Kinabalu, when
all pre-departure checks have been completed we will thrust off the berth, swing
the bow to port and retrace our track out of Gaya Bay. We will then disembark
the local pilot before proceeding on a north-westerly heading through the South
China Sea towards our next port of call, Hong Kong.
Today we had booked to go on the excursion which took us to
Mt Kinabalu Park, it was an all day tour. However yesterday the Captain made an
announcement over the PA that the Zika virus mosquitoes are active in this
region and that we should take extra precaution to avoid being beaten. Betty
and I discussed the tour we were booked on and decided that as this was to a
rainforest type area that we would rather not put ourselves at risk so we
cancelled and decided to just catch the shuttle bus into the town of Kota
Kinabalu. This had the added benefit that we did not have to rise early to be
ready to leave at 7.30am. The town is typical of most Asian ports. We were
dropped at a large shopping mall which we walked around before then walking
down the water front after a stop at Star Bucks. We were back on board just in
time for lunch. It was quite tiring walking in the heat. We were entertained
tonight in the Vista Lounge by two of the old Four Kings Men, Pearson &
Harvey. They now team together as a comedy Act and they are certainly that even
though they can still both sing very well they have a comedy routine that had
us all in stitches with laughter. It was an excellent performance and we are
already looking forward to their next show in a few days’ time.
